About us

I am Clifton David Crump, and Clifton David is my New York City-based interior decorating studio dedicated to helping my clients uncover and embrace their own modernist sensibility. With a lifelong passion for modernist interior and architectural design, I believe that good design has the power to transform lives.

My career spans work with prominent global design firms, where I’ve facilitated the integration of innovative modernist designs into both public spaces and private homes. My deep connection to modernist design—shaped by personal study, travel, and collaborations with leading designers—has greatly influenced my approach to design and decorating. The intentionality, simplicity, and functionality of modernist design are at the core of my studio’s ethos, guiding each project with a focus on timeless beauty and thoughtful design.

Through my work, I guide clients in expressing their own personal modernism, creating spaces that are elegant, livable, and timeless—as unique as the people who inhabit them.

My design approach

Drawing inspiration from the democratic ideals of the Bauhaus movement of the 1920s and early 1930s, as well as post-war American mid-century modernism, we approach every project with a spirit of innovation, exploration, and accessibility. We see modernism not as a rigid aesthetic, but as a philosophy—one that values clarity, functionality, and a deep connection between form and purpose.

Our design approach is based on the following principles:

Form Follows Feel

We focus on the experience of a space before we focus on the look. We start with questions like how you want to feel inside a room and how can you imagine yourself using this room?

Organic Forms

The fluid forms created by nature and the straight lines created by man should coexist in a rhythm that brings balance to a space.

Integration with Nature

We seek to make a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, blurring lines whenever possible to achieve environmental and contextual harmony.

Modern Use of Materials

Constant exploration of new materials, new ways of using traditional materials, and challenging our perspective on how and when a material is used.

A Personal Touch

You should be the central anchor of your space, whether it be a celebration of your family, culture, interests, or all of the above, your space should reflect the “you” you want to be when you’re home.
